Georges and Anne are octogenarians, cultivated people, retired music teachers. Their daughter, also a musician, lives abroad with her family. When Anne has an accident, the love that unites the couple is severely tested.
Michael Haneke has directed a film of brilliant simplicity in which rigour and mastery vie with tenderness and humanity. The breathtaking interpretation of Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva, defying death, in a delicate lighting designed by cinematographer Darius Khondji, make this film into a masterpiece.
