Since the death of her father, Asuna, a schoolgirl, often goes off to be alone in the hills. One day, attacked by a monster, she is narrowly saved by Shun, a mysterious boy who claims that he comes from Agartha, the legendary land of the gods. After 5 Centimeters Per Second, Makoto Shinkai creates a grand tale of adventure with an epic span. In a contemplative style, Shinkai reinterprets the myth of Orpheus's descent into hell, adding a fantastic bestiary and Shinto deities to create an incredibly rich, majestic world. Between drama and light comedy, a masterpiece of independent Japanese animation.
