The rise of Cambodian cinema was halted with the advent of the Khmer Rouge. Most films have disappeared, the actors have been killed, and cinemas turned into karaoke palaces. Golden Slumbers films the words of a few survivors and tries to awaken the spirit of this forgotten cinema. "Combining with infinite grace lightness and tragedy, sweetness and pain, light and darkness, Davy Chou patiently weaves back together the broken weft of the world before and the world after the genocide. Consistent with his approach, he decided to take up the torch of the fathers with whom he identified." Isabelle Regnier (Le Monde)
