Jane Eyre is a young orphan hired as a governess at Thornfield Hall, owned by the mysterious Edward Rochester. Prey to dark moods, the wealthy owner is gradually charmed by his employee. For this new adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s masterpiece, director Cary Fukunaga takes a darker tangent, accentuating the black, chilling aspects of the story, giving it a Gothic mood. With sparing words and gestures, Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska display their strength and humanity. A timeless heroine, Jane Eyre is also of our time, a woman craving emancipation and equality.
