To relieve his pregnant wife, the piano teacher Dong-sik hires a young maid. Even though they appear to be a model couple, their marriage cannot survive this new arrival. The housemaid enters into a demonic game in order to usurp the husband. "For a Westerner, the discovery of a film such as The Housemaid, more than 40 years later, offers a marvelous feeling – marvelous not just because one finds in writer-director Kim Ki-young a truly extraordinary image maker, but also because his film such an utterly unpredictable work. So Luis Buñuel had a Korean brother!" - Jean-Michel Frodon
