Nadine Chevalier is a series-B-movie actress. During a film shoot, the photographer Servais captures the distress of this broken actress and tries his best to help her. A passionate love story in a violent, perverse, carnal world. Adapted from Christopher Frank’s novel La Nuit Américaine, this production allowed Andrzej Żuławski to return to work in Poland, where his previous film, The Devil, had been censored. The desperate woman and the sad-faced clown that Romy Schneider and Jacques Dutronc play raise this movie to the rank of a cult film.
