Two old men are chatting in a bar in Santiago. Their conversation is strange: they talk about themselves as if they were already dead. Where are we exactly? After more than thirty years spent far away from Chile, Ruiz returns and makes this timeless, unclassifiable film. It conveys both the culmination of his research on cinematic storytelling and a melancholic homecoming, imbued with nostalgia, melancholy, and alcohol. Voted best film in the history of Chile by critics at the time of its release, this extraordinary meditation on life, death, and creation becomes a moving tale in which scorn, poetry, and fantasy prevail.
