Trailer

Stella, a famous cabaret singer enamored of freedom, leads an uncompromising life. Aleko, a young man of good breeding, and Milto, a football star from a working class neighborhood, compete for her love and for her hand. Presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 1955, Stella is adapted from a play written by Iakovos Kambanellis. A tribute to both Greek tragedy and American film noir, the film is above all a portrayal of a woman who frees herself from the rigidity of traditional male society. Michael Cacoyannis, director of Zorba the Greek, reveals Melina Mercouri, who is brillant in her first screen role.
