The director René Vidal attempts a remake of a monument of the film world: The Vampires by Louis Feuillade. Maggie Cheung, a Hong Kong star is cast as the heroine, Irma Vep. The shooting starts but problems keep arising… With a fresh and mischievous eye, director Olivier Assayas unrestrainedly reveals the backstage of a film shoot, delivering his view of cinema itself; a living chronicle that demythologizes and accepts all its references. Jean-Pierre Léaud, excessive and lyrical, plays opposite the grace and charm of Maggie Cheung, who lights up the screen.
