(The Other World)

En 1995, deux amis entrent dans leur vie d’adulte. Alors que David, courageux et idéaliste, s’engage dans l’armée pour devenir casque bleu et se retrouve plongé au cœur du conflit yougoslave, Julien participe pour la première fois au tournage d’un long métrage. L'Autre Monde est le récit émouvant d’une amitié qui perdure malgré la distance physique et les voies opposées empruntées par les deux jeunes hommes. Construit sous la forme d’une correspondance épistolaire, le récit fait cohabiter le quotidien de David, filmé dans un camp d’entraînement puis sur le terrain, et la voix de Julien, qui lui écrit. Progressivement, Romain Delange accentue le décalage entre image et son, donnant la sensation que les deux individus gravitent dans des univers différents. Vibrant hommage au cinéma, le film tisse avec sensibilité une histoire d’amitié émouvante, où les regrets se mêlent à la nostalgie d’une jeunesse insouciante.

1995: two friends enter adulthood. David, brave and idealistic, joins the army to become a blue helmet and finds himself in the heart of the Yugoslav conflict, while Julien takes part for the first time in the shooting of a feature film. The Other World tells the story of a friendship which continues despite the physical distance and the different paths taken by the two young men. The story, which takes the form of an exchange of letters, brings together David’s everyday life – filmed in a training camp and on the battlefield – and Julien’s voice, while he is writing. Romain Delange gradually accentuates the interval between the pictures and the sound, giving the impression that the two characters are in two different worlds. The director shows his sensitivity and weaves a moving story about friendship, where regret mixes with the nostalgia of their carefree youth.
